SUMMARY
Daikanbo is one of the most famous viewpoints in the Aso area, located on the northern rim of the Aso Caldera. From the observatory, visitors can enjoy sweeping 360-degree views of the Aso Five Peaks, wide grasslands, the caldera basin, and, on clear days, distant mountain ranges.

Daikanbo is a scenic observatory located on the northern outer rim of the Aso Caldera in Kumamoto Prefecture.
It is widely known as one of the best places to take in the scale of Aso's volcanic landscape, with open views over the caldera basin and the Aso Five Peaks.
The shape of the Aso Five Peaks is often called the "sleeping Buddha" because the mountain ridgeline resembles a reclining figure when seen from this direction.
A short walking path leads from the parking area to the main viewpoint, where visitors can enjoy an unobstructed 360-degree panorama of grasslands, mountains, and the vast caldera below.
Daikanbo is especially popular for sunrise, sunset, and sea-of-clouds scenery. On cool, clear mornings, clouds may fill the caldera basin below the viewpoint, creating a dramatic floating landscape.
