DESCRIPTION
Nanzoin is located in Sasaguri Town, Fukuoka Prefecture, and serves as the head temple of the Sasaguri Shikoku Pilgrimage route.
The temple's most famous attraction is the gigantic reclining Buddha statue, completed in 1995. Measuring approximately 41 meters long, 11 meters high, and weighing around 300 tons, it is considered one of the largest bronze reclining Buddha statues in the world.
The statue represents the moment of Buddha entering Nirvana and symbolizes peace, enlightenment, and eternal rest.
Visitors can walk around the statue, admire its impressive scale, and even enter the interior section where sacred relics and prayer spaces are housed.
The temple grounds are surrounded by forests and mountains, creating a peaceful atmosphere that changes beautifully with the seasons. Spring cherry blossoms and autumn foliage are especially popular among photographers.
